I feel scared at the sight of insects. The thought of it sends shivers down my spine. I would like to share with you why I am afraid of insects.

At a young age of three, I got bitten by an insect. I showed it to my parents but they took it as a normal mosquito bite. However, the next day, I had a high fever, sore throat and cough. I felt really uncomfortable and was grimacing in agony and pain. Immediately, my parents brought me to the nearby clinic. The doctor confirmed that it was Dengue fever. Under sufficient rest and medication, I recovered in a few days time. That incident would be etched in my mind forever and because of that terrifying experience, I am afraid of all sorts of insects including ants !

I know that one day I will definitely have to conquer my fear of insects but the moment I see an insect, my knees turn to jelly and my mind goes blank. From there, memories of the day I had dengue fever flows through my mind vividly. I will also shout at the top of my lungs.

Most of my friends are aware that I am afraid of insects, and so, gave me a nickname- Scaredy cat.

I was from River Valley Primary and my birthday falls on the 17th of December. I am turning 13 and is well - liked by my friends. I am none other than, CYBELLE WOO XIN YU !

I have 4 other family members. They are my father, mother, older sister and younger sister. My older sister studies in Gan Eng Seng Sec while my younger sister attends school in River Valley Primary. Although my parents have to work, they will bring us out on Saturdays and Sundays. We are a happy family and I love my family!


I am good in swimming, drawing, singing and surfing the net. What I dislike the most are insects and I love to travel !

During my free time, I will normally read some storybooks. Some of my favourite authors are : Nancy Drew, Judy Blume and Russell Lee. I like their stories because the words they use in books are not too deep for me to understand and most of them include horror and mystery which I love !
